Ministry Team

Dr. Don Smith, Transitional Senior Pastor

Pastor Don is serving as our Transitional Senior Pastor.  Don grew up in Wichita, Kansas and at the age of 16 felt God’s Call upon his life to prepare for full-time Christian ministry.  He attended Anderson University earning a BA in Marriage and Family Counseling, Master of Divinity at the Anderson School of Theology, and eventually earning a Doctor of Ministry at Fuller Seminary.  He has had the privilege of serving at a variety of levels in ministry: Associate Pastor, Senior Pastor, Church Planter, State Ministry Associate, Seminary President and Professor in Kenya, East Africa.  For the last four years he has served as a Transitional/Interim Pastor leading churches through transitional periods between pastors.

Don has been blessed to share this journey in ministry with his wife,  Chris (Clay) who is from Kendallville, IN. They have a daughter, Natalie and her husband, Brad, and a son, Nathan and his wife, Millie.  Don and Chris truly love grandparenting their four grandchildren; Xavier, Hudson, Ruby, and Beren.

The Smith’s bring 43 years of ministry to us with this common goal, to love and guide this church through this period of evaluation, renewal, growth, and finding God’s next Senior Pastor.

They traveled to 48 states and sang in over 500 congregations around the country. VOH continues to minister a few times a year.  Jamie and his wife, Beverly, married in March 2000 and have three children: Reagan, Hudson and Jensen. They have been in worship ministry since 2000, serving in Hutchinson, Kansas, St James, Missouri, and St Robert, Missouri, prior to coming to Decatur.  Jamie obviously enjoys music, but also enjoys sports, dramas, traveling, people and spending time with his family.  Jamie joined the DCOG pastoral team in June 2013.
